Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below:

International SOS is looking for an experienced Psychiatrist to diagnose, treat, and prevent mental health disorders through a combination of therapy, medication management, and comprehensive patient care. This role involves collaborating with patients to develop tailored treatment plans that address their psychological, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric services for Veterans enrolled for care in the Atlanta VA Healthcare System Outpatient Clinics.
  • Provide general psychiatric care to male and female adult Veterans, including diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultations, medication management, and individual psychotherapy.
  • Prescribe appropriate psychotropic medications, provide general clinical management, and request consultations with other medical disciplines.
  • Assess risk factors and develop preliminary disposition plans involving the Veteran and significant others.
  • Treat common diagnoses such as anxiety disorders, PTSD, major depression, substance use disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury-related disorders, and other mood disorders.
  • Assess serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illnesses, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and other high-risk diagnoses.
  • Exercise clinical judgment in selecting or adapting standard and accepted clinical techniques, developing new practices in treating patients.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to provide comprehensive care.
  • Establish professional relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
  • Provide telephone and curbside consultations and screenings for appropriateness prior to scheduling.
  • Supervise mid-level providers, psychiatric advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and other staff as appropriate.
  • Provide telehealth assessments as needed.
  • Participate in quality of care, peer review, and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Active, unrestricted physician license from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, or equivalent.

Education Required:

  • MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • DEA license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work typically performed in an office environment.
  • Prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Bending, stooping, lifting up to 25 lbs may be required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Must pass VA Public Trust Clearance.

Pay range is based on experience and benefits. Final salary will be determined accordingly.
