Job Description

We are seeking a 5th grade teacher for the 2025-2026 school year

The Candidate

You have knowledge and experience with literacy education and learning support for early elementary ages. You can identify and implement appropriate strategies to meet the particular learning needs of individual students. You have experience with and knowledge of reading and writing curriculum development and you have strong classroom management and pedagogy skills. You are comfortable administering reading and phonics assessments, interpreting results, and designing individualized reading lessons and goals. You are experienced and confident as a coach to elementary years teachers in reading and writing instruction, evaluation, and support. You have a willingness to grow professionally through ongoing professional development courses. You are a detailed-oriented team player with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. You are a professional who is energetic, has a positive attitude, and is a self-starter. You work collaboratively in a small community and can instill confidence in the program with parents. You are creative and flexible with organizational and broad-based student management skills in a variety of groupings from 1:1 to small group or whole section. Your strong verbal and written communication skills support your development of interpersonal relationships with students, faculty and families. You are culturally competent with effective organizational and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

  • The contract duration is from August 16, 2025 through August 15, 2026. Standard work hours, benefits, and paid time off as per the Faculty/Staff Handbook
  • You bring creativity, excellent relationship skills, and a collaborative approach to your craft
  • Ability to motivate and stimulate children's learning abilities through a range of experiences
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom culture that values all voices and appreciates various perspectives
  • Experience in creating a safe environment for students to ask questions, take academic risks, problem solve and communicate their thinking
  • Collaborative and creative educator who is willing to work with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment and instructional strategies with flexibility and resourcefulness
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and sensitively with a diverse population of students, faculty and parent body
  • Skilled writer and communicator with a focus on timely communications with families
  • Attend a selection of weekly faculty meetings, Back to School Night, and formal Parent-Teacher Conferences (in fall and spring)
  • Attend start of year and closing faculty meetings
  • Attend grade-related field trips (including overnight trips if applicable) and certain evening events

  • Understanding of exploratory, inquiry-based approach with real-world application
  • Experience developing curriculum with the ability to develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning
  • Proficient with using technology (Google Suite and use of Smart Panels and Chromebooks)
  • Knowledge and experience with maintaining written records of individual student development, which includes competency checklists, narrative comments on reports and leading conferences with parents and student

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50,000.00 - $74,000.00 per year
